Unveiling the Next Evolution of Bundlr

After months of preparation, we’re thrilled to unveil the next chapter in our evolution. Since our inception in 2021, Bundlr has grown rapidly. To match our network’s growth and represent the depth of our capabilities, we are updating our identity. Now, we want to share these updates with you.

In this post, we will:

  • Share our vision

  • Introduce a new Bundlr solution, Proof of Provenance

  • Explore use cases in which Bundlr is being used today

  • Explain our new branding

  • And of course, reveal some plans for the future

Let’s demystify Bundlr!

What You Can Expect from Bundlr

Our vision is to create data’s trustless source of truth.

Technology is revolutionizing the way in which we can address one of the biggest societal issues of our time: data integrity.

Data integrity issues emerge from the unauthorized modification of any component of data, including metadata. One of the prerequisites for solving data integrity challenges is to have an immutable, permanent data foundation that can accurately prove the origin of data with details on when it was created and by whom. For this foundation to be accessible, data must be easy to search for. Bundlr is focused on building this foundation; Bundlr aims to be the world’s data layer, upon which builders can solve data integrity issues, permissionlessly.

Anyone should be able to discover, read, and write public information, forever. There should equally be an option to securely store private information. And all of this should happen without sacrificing performance, scalability, and the ease of use that users expect. We strive to turn these ideals into reality.

How will Bundlr do this?

Beyond Storage: Introducing Proof of Provenance

Permanent Storage

Until now, our community has primarily known us as the scaling layer for Arweave. We improve the experience of permanently storing your data on Arweave by letting you pay storage fees in several supported tokens including ETH, MATIC, and SOL. We also make this process performant, by reducing upload time to under 8 milliseconds, and scalable, by being able to process up to millions of transactions per second. All of this has made Bundlr the best way to store data on Arweave, evidenced by the fact that we are currently processing over 90% of all Arweave transactions.

Today, we are expanding Bundlr’s boundaries. We’re introducing a new solution to data integrity issues: Proof of Provenance.

Proof of Provenance

Data integrity issues are increasing in both their severity and frequency over time. As sophisticated technologies such as artificial intelligence make it easier to convincingly tamper with data, it will be increasingly crucial to distinguish between original and modified data.

One of the prerequisites for addressing this problem is attributing data back to its origin. This can include attributing when information was uploaded, who created it, or any other custom metadata that users choose to attribute. Through Bundlr’s Proof of Provenance, developers can accomplish this by uploading data with custom metadata tags. Custom metadata tagging enables the creation of expressive, semi-relational data models which make it easy to categorize and search for information.

Further, Bundlr’s Proof of Provenance includes instant and verifiable timestamping, which proves when data was uploaded, down to the millisecond. This makes it possible for developers to build trustless provenance chains with granular creator attribution and the ability to create real verifiable systems.

We expect this to be a cornerstone piece of technology that developers will harness for use cases that require trustless transparency.

Some Things Never Change…

Like storage, Bundlr’s Proof of Provenance inherits the network’s core benefits that developers love: performance, scalability, and a seamless building experience. Backed by blockchain technology and permanent storage, Bundlr is uniquely positioned to bring data integrity and censorship resistance to the masses.

And how can Bundlr’s solutions be used?

Use Cases for Everyone, No Matter What Size

When Bundlr was born, in the 2021 NFT boom, there was a clear demand for a scalable way to store NFT metadata permanently. This use case was just the tip of the iceberg. Today, the use cases for Bundlr are far more expansive.

We envision a future in which Bundlr is the data layer of decentralized content technologies, allowing developers to build dApps that give true ownership to creators. Creator-focused projects on Bundlr guarantee that no one can take down users’ content or their ability to monetize this content. We already have several projects including Lenstube, Lenster, Beem, Glass, and many others using Bundlr for this.

Further, we are anticipating that Bundlr will become an integral component of not only decentralized social media, but also messaging, information archiving, and other use cases in which data might be vulnerable to censorship or unauthorized modification. We also anticipate that traditional tech companies will leverage Bundlr to access some of the benefits that crypto infrastructure provides, without compromising on the performance of traditional Web2 alternatives.

Bundlr is the natural choice for any use case in which the permanence and provenance of data are important, especially when coupled with the need for low latencies and costs at high throughput.

And What's This New Look?

We have updated our branding to visually represent Bundlr as the world’s data layer.

Disparate chunks come together to form Bundlr, a cohesive layer of data. Unlike silos on on-premise servers or in the cloud, data on Bundlr flows freely. It is easily accessible and free of centralized points of failure, allowing it to serve as the trustless source of truth.

We have updated our brand colors to express our ambitions for the future. We are introducing new colors – Persian Orange, Peach Yellow, and Seashell – in the spirit of the innovative path we’re embarking on.

And despite other changes, our logo has remained. The logo represents the chaining (or bundling) of data in the shape of the letter B – much like Bundlr does with data on top of Arweave’s blockweave. It seemed appropriate to keep the logo permanent.

What to Expect Next?

We’ll be teaching you all you need to know about bundling, Bundloooors.

In the coming months, we will share content to explain use cases and make it easier to build on Bundlr. This will be a mix of tutorials and Bundlr Quests. The best places to stay up to date on the latest are our Twitter, Discord, and our recently launched YouTube channel.

There might also be a few surprises along the way…

Bear or bull, Bundlr will be building a trustless source of truth.
